Pennsy Trail

Looking for a break from the crowds on the Monon? Walkers and bikers head to Greenfield and check out the Pennsy Trail. We hit the trail this past weekend at peak time and were amazed that we saw so few people on it. It is only 2.6 miles which might be too short for serious bikers but you could make up for it on the quiet surrounding country roads. The photo of the trail here pretty much represents what you can expect; it is flat, flat, flat. You'll pass everything from silos to the gorgeous Greenfield courthouse to a remote picnic table to James Whitcomb Riley's "old swimmin' hole. There are a couple of areas that you can park to catch it. You can type in 200 Center St. (as we did) to your favorite online map maker to get directions to the far western end of it to park. What's up with the name? It follows the former Pennsylvania railroad line. All aboard!
